John Burgess is a recognised leader in the field of cyber security & digital transformation. A Certified ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor, since 2018 John has led the Cyber Security & Digital Technology training programs at Victoria University, Melbourne. He also sits on the management committee of the national TAFEcyber consortium.
Before joining the education sector, John gained extensive industry experience as a software developer, IT Manager, Information Systems Auditor, and CEO of a global IT Managed Services provider.
John is the Convenor of the Melbourne Robotics and AI Meetup Group a special-interest community with over 400 members . He is also co-founder of Jolt Systems, an EdTech developer that employs artificial intelligence to accelerate the creation of learning and assessment resources. Through his latest start-up, JoltAI, John shares his knowledge and experience as a Generative AI innovator with organisations seeking to implement artificial intelligence management systems.
John holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Deakin University (with dual majors in Accountancy and Information Systems), a Graduate Diploma in Document Management (awarded with Distinction) and a Master of Business degree in Information Innovation awarded by RMIT University. He is also a Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Practitioner.
He is the author of The Australian Cyber Security Handbook and is a regular speaker at industry conferences and in the media.
