Synopsis

I propose to provide a summary and some commentary on the Federal government's cyber security related legislative reforms including the new Cyber Security Act covering IoT standards, an incident review board and ransomware reporting obligations, the change to the security obligation in APP11 of the Privacy Act 1987, new criminal offences of Doxxing, small changes to the powers of Intelligence Agencies and a number of important changes to the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018.

This legislation has been out for consultation (recently complete) and will almost certainly be before Parliament or passed before the Conference.
